Make Something Happen – Win Gold - Hire a Coach
Watching the Olympics, I see the value that each country has placed on their teams in supporting them to do & be their best. Years of training; physically, mentally, financially and emotionally, these athletes and their coaches know that to WIN GOLD, you must be prepared with top support.
When you have a coach in your corner and a team of people around you that acknowledge your efforts and help you not only reach your dreams but soar to new heights you had not even imagined, you have won the gold medal in your life.
Dana Torres won the team silver medal for swimming relay against a tough competitor. Now at her fifth Olympics, she stated after the race “Don’t let your age define your dreams.” Her investment in learning skills in the sport of swimming over all these many years has paid huge dividends to her. Along the way, however, she has had coaches to help her train, learn new techniques, support her in overcoming obstacles, and acknowledge her superb efforts by placing her in higher and higher tests of her abilities and natural talents. The cream rises to the top.
Whether a sport, career, family, personal challenge or any dream or desire you may have, I would like you to consider that by investing in a coach, you can place support for your dream, wish or objective front and center. We are all connected in teams, family units, organizations; no one person can succeed just by themselves. Our natural interdependence allows us to help each other succeed.
A coach can help you create structure and accountability. Do you think that the swimmer who wins 8 gold medals just practiced when he felt like it? Did he sacrifice other options since the age of 11 years old that were more fun? Michael Phelps drive to win and succeed at his chosen sport is remarkable. His natural physical abilities plus his determination had been shaped by the support of family, coaches and the team around him. No, it didn’t happen overnight but through a dedicated investment of time, money and determination.
We see the champion in each one of us when we watch these fantastic athletes excel at games. Nastia Liuken, Shawn Johnson and others all over the world are inspiring us to go for it. Sure, they are just games, but what if we looked at our lives as a kind of game? How would it be to prepare for 3, 5 or 10 years or more to reach a successful outcome that we know may be a long shot but deep down we have to “go for it”? What would it require to be at a place where success was assured?
I challenge you to acknowledge all the support you currently have in your life RIGHT NOW. Start noticing the people in your life who are committed to your success. Be grateful that they are there. If they are more sure than you of going forward with their goals, what is different for them? Consider what they may have installed in their lives to propel them forward. Let go of the struggle of doing it all by yourself.
Know that by investing in yourself, you bring your gifts, talent and abilities to the world which makes it a better place for everyone. Are you able to make a shift in awareness to open up a new way of looking at your “game”? Be open to the possibilities and to receiving your gold medal in life.
